Geneva, 16 January 2025 – The first World Congress on Enforced Disappearances concluded with a stimulating session dedicated to unveiling key follow-up activities.
Each activity was presented by one participant and supported by another, symbolizing the collective spirit of this unprecedented event. These initiatives aim to maintain the momentum generated at the Congress and lead to concrete, impactful action.
Key follow-up activities include:
- Support the creation of a victim-led regional network in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Organization of regular meetings of women searchers
- Monitoring of CED sessions
- Promotion of ratification of the International Convention
- Strengthening the capacity of CSOs to engage with UN mechanisms
- Support the creation of a global youth network against enforced disappearances
Each initiative was suggested during pre-Congress regional consultations and represents a commitment to the fight against enforced disappearance.
The World Congress gathered hundreds of participants from all regions, including survivors and family members, high-level government representatives, human rights organizations, legal experts, underscoring the universality of this critical issue.
